Two sectors, 14 job categories, and 2,413 local pages covering 207 local authorities.

Each local page carries the official figures for that council area: how many people work in the role, what the publisher says about pay and turnover where it releases them, and how the area sits against its neighbours. Underneath sit the adverts themselves, pulled live so a job posted an hour ago is already there.

We only build a page where the data exists. That is a deliberate limit. A page with nothing local on it is a page that wastes your time and misleads a search engine, so an area with no published figure for a role simply has no page for it. Where a publisher withholds a number to protect a small sample, we say so on the page instead of filling the gap with an average from somewhere else.

If you already know what you are looking for, search the adverts directly rather than working down through the lists. The search covers every live advert on the board, and the order it gives them back in depends only on your words and on how recently each one was posted.

How this works

Why does every area not have a page?

Because a page here has to have something local on it. We generate one only where the publisher releases a real figure for that role in that area. Where the figure is withheld, usually because the sample is too small, there is no page rather than a page with a national average pasted into it.

Are these numbers counts of jobs being advertised?

No. The workforce and employee job figures describe how many people are working in an area. Adverts are counted separately and shown live on each page, straight from the database, so the list is current without the page being rebuilt.

Do I have to register to apply?

No. You can apply to any advert without an account. Registering only sets up alerts, so you hear about new adverts in the roles and places you chose.

What decides the order adverts come back in when I search?

Two things, and nothing else: how closely an advert contains the words you typed, and how recently it was posted. Nothing about you is part of it. We hold no view on which jobs suit you, we do not sort them into better and worse for you, and we never put you forward for one. You read the adverts and you decide which to apply to.
